Being part of a small school means our young people gain important social skills along the way – like an extended family, we share, co-operate, and collaborate to foster confidence in our students as individuals and a combined love of learning as a group.

Currently catering for 11 students, Zeerust Primary’s close connections with other small schools and its visiting team of professionals means students and staff are exceptionally well-resourced and cared for.

I combine teaching with managing the school as principal and my team also includes two part-time classroom teachers, a full-time teachers’ aide, business manager and visiting art, library, counselling and speech therapy specialists.

The best thing about working in a small school is our ability to tailor learning to each individual child. This means making close connections with their families and working together to make primary school the best it can be for each and every student.

So, it’s only fair I share a little bit about myself.

I’ve been a teacher for about 25 years at schools across northern Victoria, including other small schools in Greater Shepparton. I’ve been a principal since 2018 and have come by my career honestly—my father was a teacher and principal, and my mother managed school finances.

I’m married with adult children and three grandchildren. We have a mixed farm of 150 acres so I can “talk shop” with many of our families. My spare time will find me in my craft studio created from a converted garage, where I sew, smock, quilt, knit, spin and more!
